Dear Friends and Family,
The saddest thing happened... we have to e-mail at one of the libraries but I do not have a library card yet...so my companion- Hermana Crandall let me have 1/2 hour of her time. BUT the computer froze and... I'm so sad... I had so many things I wanted to tell everyone but I guess this will do. (She wrote this letter to Julie to type up exactly how she wrote it, to put on the blog for everyone) This is the saddest I've been the whole time in New York so... I guess I just need to gird up my skirt and go any way.
Maybe Maybe you (Julie) could update every one for me. I don't have enough time to write everyone. I don't know.
OK, to the good stuff. I'm serving in the Queens-Flushing area. Flushing is part of Queens. It's definitely the city here and it's not clean :) but I hardly ever notice. As a missionary I can truly feel a shield of protection around me like never before. OH! Thank you so much for the e-mails. Anyone can e-mail me I just can't e-mail back to them.
OK, my apartment is...;) we're in New York so it's a NY apartment. It's better than I thought it would be actually. We share it with two other sisters who are also Spanish speaking...Our area is pretty interesting. There are people from every where and I mean everywhere!!! A lot of Flushing is Chinese. A LOT of people here are Chinese. We offer free English class for Chinese and Spanish. It's really interesting. I never thought about teaching language classes before but... That's what we do. Actually on Saturday my companion and I, mostly my companion taught our 1st English class. It was amazing. I learned a lot more Spanish.
Our neighborhood is great. Would I normally be walking around at night here? NO but :) wow! I can TRULY truly feel the safety and shield that comes from being a missionary. (I'm so sad about the e-mail- Could you update this on the blog or something?:) I had so much to say.)
OK, I was writing at the library while my companion Hermana Crandall logs onto the computer but then we left and got onto the subway. It was super packed and I almost didn't make it on. Hermana Crandall grabbed my shoulder and pulled hoping I could squeeze in enough so the doors wouldn't hit me. We were squished so tightly. Then after more people got off Hermana Crandall looked down and saw that her side bag was open. Someone stole her metra card!!! How rude. It' the first time she's been robbed. She only has 6 more months left. But don't worry, over all I always feel safe as a missionary. I need Kevin to tell me what parts of El Salvador he served in. I've met about 200, OK maybe only 100-150 people from there. There are people from Every where, and I mean EVERYWHERE, here. My first two days I couldn't figure out what language to speak half the time. Chinese, Spanish, English people talk to me in Polish Ahhhh!LOL :)
Spanish is ... well, it's coming. Every day I feel I am at least 1/4 better than I was the day before or even sometimes I feel like it doubles over night. Honestly, even with that it's pretty slow and I could use a lot of prayers which I feel. Thank you. But Spanish... it will come.
I know Heavenly Father hasn't sent me to fail. My companion is so amazing! Really. She reminds me of Amy sometimes, in a good way, of course. She's from a really small town in Northern Arizona. Her graduating class numbered 39. She's been on her mission for about 12 months. She is so neat. She works SUPER HARD! which I absolutely love. She follows all of the rules, is such a great example to me, and God knows I needed her right now.
It was such a relief to have her be so on fire. She's such a humble person too. The first day with her we came to our "pad" and she had gotten me some granola bars and made me a pb&j sandwich. She's 23 as well. Just last week was her birthday. Already graduated from college and is exactly what I had been praying for. She's really teaching me about how to be a great missionary and again she's a super hard worker. She's a very simple person as well.
Hermana Crandall is going to be applying for grad school so hopefully I'll have more time. She graduated in teaching and that is what she wants to get her degree in. So miracles every day- I see so many every day. We do a lot of bus finding. We get on the bus (PS there is only one area where sisters have a car and it's far out on Long Island. Rumor has it that sisters walk about 10 miles a day.)Any way, we use the busses a lot. We get on the bus and look for who ever looks Hispanic and then go sit by them, talk with them, give out pass along cards, try to get their info to teach them, and so forth. I think I've passed out 100+ pass along cards.
It's amazing who we come in contact with. For example last night we were on a bus going up to College Point. I had just talked to a teenager in English and then was looking around to see who I should talk to next. I saw a young adult aged man 20ish sitting towards the front of the bus. I saw my companion move and sit by a lady so he was the only person I saw who looked like they would speak Spanish. It was kind of awkward at first because I got up from the middle of the bus and move over to sit by him. That happens a lot, the awkward feelings, but oh well. I started to talk to him in Spanish "Hi how are you." "Where are you from?" Then I gave him a pass along card for a Book of Mormon in Spanish. He said when he lived in Columbia two years ago he used to read it, but since he lived here he lost it. He was just about to get off and I said, "I have one here in my bag right now!" He piped up and said, "Yeah!" I hurried and grabbed it out of my bag and gave it to him. Our number was on the pass along card. I told him to call us to know more and out he went. When Hermana Crandall and I got off the bus I told her about it. She told me she had seen him and was going to talk with him but she just felt she shouldn't. Then she realized that she didn't have an extra copy of the Book of Mormon to give him if she had talked to him, but I did. So neat huh? That's just one of about 200,000 miracles I've seen or experienced so far.
Life is great. I'm exhausted all the time but when we're out working it's amazing. Honestly, I’m doing well. Life as a missionary is super hard but it's super good. Heavenly Father is blessing me more than I could ever imagine.
Love,
Hermana Banaszewski

Hola!
How are all of you doing??? Thank you so much for your letters. Its so hard to write every one back :( Sorry, the only time I really have to write is when I'm doing my laundry and there are clothes flying all over the place :) I GREATLY appreciate all of the letters I have receive and not one goes un-noticed.
Ok, First things- I GOT MY FLIGHT PLANS!!! Yeah! I'm actually kind of sad I'm leaving. I'm excited as well but I will miss those I have learned to love. It has been an extremely hard but EXTREMELY rewarding experience being at the MTC-CCM in Spanish :)
On Monday Hermana Hinton and I had our last appointment in the TRC-where we practice and teach investigators. Our lesson was lesson two again like last week but this time adding the law of Tithing. All morning I wasn't feeling very good about our lesson. I wanted so bad to do our very best. Before we went to the TRC I poured my heart our to Heavenly Father in prayer expressing my great desire to do our very best and that all who where there would feel of the Holy Ghost. As we arrived at the TRC I was stressed. I peaked in the room our investigator was sitting in and AHH!!! It was the SAME lady we taugh LAST WEEK in the TRC who intimidates me AND...we JUST taught her lesson 2 with the Word of Wisdom. I had two choices to make. I could either feel doomed or whip away all stress, fear, and doubts and CRUSH the lesson with my Companion and the Spirit. Whew am I grateful for the Gift of the Holy Ghost. As we taught the spirit was extremely strong. My companion and I said things in Spanish that we had never before said. It was such a blessing. I asked questions in Spanish and...Blessings from above. After the lesson was over I asked her if I could speak in English. She said yes and I proceeded to express my love for her. For her as a person not her as a "fake" investigator. What amazed me the most is the love that I gained for this random woman that I had taught four times for a half an hour.
The love of God is real. He desperately wants all of us to return to Him. Have I said lately how HAPPY and GRATEFUL I am to be a missionary. I can hardly believe that our Heavenly Father has blessed me with such a great gift. I ONLY have 16 months left. It seems like such a short time however I know I will have days that it feels like eternity but right now...I ONLY have 16 mo left.
ok-Flight plans: I leave on MONDAY the 18th of January. I leave the MTC at 3:00 AM-Please pray for me :) 3:00 AM! Our flight leaves at 5:50 from SLC, and I arrive in NY at 1:45. I have a layover in MN. I am traveling with 3 Elders and I am the only Sister. They made me the Travel leader. Why? I have no idea but I've already told two of the Elders that they better behave for me or else :) One of the Elders is HUGE! I'm not too worried about my safety with Him around. Elder Washburn from my district is coming which bring much comfort to me. He is an amazing Elder and then there is another Elder that I have not met yet. I have no idea when I will be able to call but it will only be for a short time from 3:00-5:20 am so...be ready. Please send me your phone numbers through DearElder ASAP to make sure I have them. If you send any DearElders after Sat I will not get them.
I have learned so much this last week. I have greatly felt the love of the Lord in my life.
I love all of you so very much. Spanish is coming along. I am excited to get to NY. Keep working hard and know that I think of you often when appropriate. Thank you for keeping in contact with Rachel.
Trust in the Lord, He will never leave you alone.
Much Love

Hola!
How is everyone doing? Its so good to get letters from everyone. You can still use dearelder when I'm in NY it just costs the price of a stamp to send it. Either way.
This week has been a great week. I feel so honored to be on a mission. I can hardly believe at times that I...I am so blessed to be here. Is it hard work-you better believe it but it is some of the most amazing work I have ever done.
I have been learning a lot about putting full trust in teh Lord and not doubting myself. This week one of my goals has been to fine-tune my ears to hear the Still Small Voice-the Holy Ghost. It is unbelievable how much our Heavenly Father truly loves us. He has blessed us and given us the Gift of the Holy Ghost. It is our responsibility to be worthy of such a gift, listen, and ACT!
As I've been focusing on TRUSTing more I see how fear can not be part of our lives. Sometimes we easily change fear into worry. We must combat the two and TRUST and serve.
My last few days at the MTC have been great. I can't believe that I'll be leaving so soon. I found out there is another Elder coming with us. SO it will be me and four Elders. I'm excited. Its going to be baptism by fire for me and another big change but I feel I've been prepare as I can be. There are two traps that I could fall in these last few days at the MTC. One-the trap of selfishness and focusing on Studying as much as I can and only focusing on me or saying, I've done all I can so why study any more. As a district we have decided to focus on service to try and help us stay out of both these traps.
I love all of you so much. I have literally seen prayers answered and miracles happen. I know The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is True.
Much Love

Hello-Hola!
How is everyone doing? How are the cold winter days? How is school, work, family, your friends going/doing?
Family-Will you find someone for the missionaries to teach in the next 6 mo? I know as you prayerfully seek to find someone, are humble, and follow the guidence of the spirit you will be able to. I never asked any of you such a commitment before but...I KNOW you can do it. Will you? Will you take on such a challenge?
This past week has been pretty difficult. Its been an emotional rollercoaster but...that is how the MTC is. I love being a missionary. Each and every day I feel myself being streched and growing. Those around me are going so much as well. On Tuesday night we had our normal Devotional and Elder Ringwood of the 70 came and spoke. He talked about Enduring to the End. It was increadable. Enduring to the End is...wow. If we faithfully endure to the end we can recieve eternal life. In the mists of our trials, tests, our personal canyons that we must cross, always-siempre-endure to the end. I promise you that as you do your life will be richer and you will have more gozo-joy in your life. Enduring is not easy. Thats exactly why its called such-enduring. You have to put a smile on your face and go.
I hope all of you know how much I love you. There have been many times in my life that I have not been the person I know I can and should have been. I pray for your forgiveness with the mistakes that I have made, the pain I have caused in your hearts, and the trials I have put you though. I am doing my best, becoming a new creature in Christ. Humility is a beautiful and difficult task however I feel humbled each and every day.
I think I will be leaving for NY on the 18th. I'm still not sure. I should be gettting my flight plans tomorrow I think. I will let you know more on Tuesday.
Much love family,
Hermana Banaszewski
Rachel E wrote Hermana Chartrand a dearElder and it brought so much GOZO to my heart! She was so happy to get a letter and was extreemly suprized when she did. Thank you.

Hello! HOLA!
Can I just say...I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY! I truly believe that I am one of, if not THE most blessed person on the earth. I've been blessed with trials, joy, great people all around me, THE GOSPEL...WOW!
Life sure is hard but it is so sweet. With out the times of great trial and pain we would have no concept of how sweet life can taste.
Ok, I'll start out with an update about Spanish. With out fail everyday I say something in Spanish that...lets just say people laugh a lot around me. I can't wait to get to NY. I'm just glad I'm already use to people laughing :) I love it. Most importantly though my Spanish has greatly improved. The gift of toungs is real. Yesterday Hermana Hinton and I taught lesson 2, the Plan of Salvation in the TRC to a pretend investigator in SPANISH! As it came time to speak about the Atonement I could feel the spirit there. One of my Teachers, Hermano Clark was observing, I didn't know he was there but after the lesson he came to me and said I spoke perfect Spanish when testifying about La Expiacion, the Atonement. It was amazing...and then...he said, "I was getting so excited and couldn't believe it and then I could see you doubting your Spanish and it wasn't as good." Lesson-Don't doubt yourself. Trust in the Lord. He is truly there and sustains us at all times.
As I have been able to testify in Spanish I can feel the Spirit testify in my heart that it is true. It is incredible. This week we are speaking Spanish for 4 straight days, NO English...please pray for me :) which I know you are, thank you.
This week I am also learned a lot more about acting on spiritual promptings. We question ourselves so much if what we are thinking or feeling is a prompting from the Holy Ghost or our own thoughts. I've quickly learned, Don't Question, just DO. ACT-my challenge to all of you is to ACT this week-will you do that? I want to hear about the times you do and the outcome.
I have my Companion, Hermana Hinton Back. She was released from Corunteen on Sat. Its great to have her back. I loved and learned SO MUCH from being companions with Hermana Bergin and Hermana Chartrand. Hermana Chartrand could use some dearElders if your looking for an opportunity to Serve-This is all the information you'll need to send either of them DearElders- Hermana Kristeen Chartrand; Hermana Mariessa Bergin Mail Box # 355(Same as Mine) Mission-San Jose, CA, dept date 1/19/10.
Coming to the MTC has been such an amazing, interesting, hard experience. I have loved every min of it even when I thought I was going to die. I can't tell you how grateful I am that coming here I realized that I was starting my mission NOW and not when I get into the field. Such tender promptings have been so sweet. As I look back I can see people coming close to Christ. This work is incredible. On Friday I had Hermana Bergin and Chartrand teach me as me, not as an investigator. As the taught me they spoke the exact words I needed to hear. The spirit testified to me that they are true representatives of Christ and they have to power to speak His words. It was incredible. I need to not doubt myself and put more trust in the Lord for I where the same name on my chest, above my heart as they do.
Go forth and serve my Dear LOVED ones. Walk with Greater Faith. The Lord stands beside you, I promise. As you do your life will be sweeter. Not necessarily easier but sweeter. I love all you you very much.
Love, Hermana Banaszewski
PS-I see my old roommate Hermana Hill Grey ALL the time here. Its fun.
(I got the new years box, thank you so much)
Rachel-please tell Mel thanks for the box. I love you and never forget about you. :)_
